SPRINGPORT TOWNSHIP BOARD MINUTES
JUNE 9TH, 2008
The regular meeting of the Springport Township Board was called to order at 7:05 pm at the Springport Township Hall by Trustee Rybicki.
Members present were: Travioli, Rybicki, Betz and Wilson. Mitchell was absent.
Rybicki stated the meeting is being recorded to assist with the minutes, once approved the tape will be destroyed.
County Commissioner Cliff Herl spoke. Randy Treacher is resigning from the Road Commission. On June 25th there will be an Inter-Governmental meeting. They are looking to change the name. They are working on getting document imaging at the County. They are working on a Soil Erosion Ordinance.
There were no Public Comments.
Motion by Travioli and supported by Betz to approve the minutes. Motion carried.
Motion by Travioli and supported by Wilson to accept and file the Treasurers report with $60,774.50 in the savings account and $64,877.23 in the checking account. Motion carried.
Motion by Betz and supported by Travioli to pay the following post audit bills. Motion carried.
Motion by Travioli and supported by Betz to pay the Township bills in the amount of $6231.92. Motion carried.
Motion by Betz and supported by Travioli to pay the Police bills in the amount of $6,823.70. Motion carried.
Motion by Travioli and supported by Betz to pay the Fire bill in the amount of $16,800.00. Motion carried.
There is no Police report.
There is no Ordinance report.
Travioli stated that Lance was at the meeting and swore everyone in. Jim contacted Region II to let them know we wanted to go ahead with the master plan. They can’t find an existing plan. Wilson questioned about the swearing in. Travioli stated that it was decided to leave it to Wilson to stager the terms. Discussion followed.
After discussion the board decided to appoint the terms as follows:
Jack Travioli and Jim Bradford: 1 year term; David Brown, Secretary: 2 year term; Loren Cowles and Jim Wardius: 3 year terms. With Jim Wardius being the Chairperson
Motion by Travioli and supported by Betz to accept the terms of the Planning Commission. Motion carried.
The Fire Board meeting is on June 23rd. Rybicki asked if there was anything we wanted him to take back to the board. There was discussion the cost of the building and why no one from our Township was contacted on that. Steve will bring it up to the board. Bill Russell asked if the bill that we approved included payment for the doors on the building. Wilson stated that bill was for fire runs and quarterly expenses only.
Sherry Prine decided to request that the Township accept or appoint a Joint Administrative Board that would be similar to the Fire Board. Discussion followed. Rybicki stated that at the next meeting the will start sending stuff out to the people that had signed the petition to keep the police department.
Motion by Travioli and supported by Betz to start a Joint Administrative Police Board subject of the passing of the Police millage in August. Wilson questioned if the Police citizens committee is going to go to the Village and ask them the same thing. The committee will go to the Village also. Motion carried.
Rybicki stated that Parma/Sandstone is running a board similar to what we have discussed.
Question by Jeff Mitchell regarding Tom Molton and the use of his personal cell phone for police work. Discussion followed to see if the board could help to pay for a portion of Tom’s phone. Rybicki will get with Tom to see if we can get a couple of his cell phone bills. Tabled to the next meeting.
Betz questioned if the Police computer was working yet. Rybicki has someone coming in tomorrow to take care of it. Reports are backing up. They did get the internet fixed.
Wilson stated that the tables have arrived. Wilson needs to get the bills to the Mason’s, S.A.G.A and Lance for reimbursement to the Township.
Travioli asked if any of the Dust control has been done. There was discussion on it. Elmer had gotten done. Prine Rd and Robbins have not been done. Wilson will pull the Resolution and call. Sherry Prine stated that Prine Rd is the worst it has been in 30 years.
Betz stated that the Mason’s approved to pay for 2 tables for the Township. The check was deposited today. Betz requested that 2 tables be marked stating they were donated by the Mason’s.
Jeff Mitchell stated that S.A.G.A is putting a picnic table in the Sykes Park.
Motion by Travioli and supported by Betz to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:45 pm.
