Springport Township Board Meeting
Supervisor Schmidt called the July 14th, 2014 Springport Township Board meeting to order at 7:00pm in the Township Hall. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. All Board members were present and we had 4 guests.
Sarah Lightner, Jackson County Commissioner reported on the latest at the County. The new 911 Center is looking good, will soon be complete. Jackson County Fair will take place Aug. 3-9. County Commissioners discussed problems with communication with JDOT and many concerns over conditions of Jackson County roads.
Dale Moretz, who is running for State Representative, introduced himself and explained some of his concerns and what he would like to accomplish if elected to the Senate.
There were no corrections or additions to the minutes of the June 9th, 2014, so the Supervisor declared them approved.
Betz gave the Treasurer’s report. General Fund has a checking account balance of $97,302.83, police account balance is $142,886.75 and fire operating account has a balance of $ 65,804.67, with fire equipment at $608.31, G.G. CD’s $79,468.80. Sebastian moved to accept the treasurer’s report for audit, motion supported by Mitchell and it carried.
Mitchell moved to approve payment of post audit police bills of $ 6,462.46, Sebastian supported the motion and it passed.
Motion by Sebastian, supported by Mitchell to approve payment of general fund bills in the amount of $15,429.32, motion carried.
Mitchell moved to approve payment of general fund bills in the amount of $6,186.00, Sebastian supported the motion and it passed unanimously.
Motion by Mitchell, supported by Sebastian to pay police bills of $9,335.85, motion passed unanimously.
C. Carmoney gave the police report, he said the “E-tickets” is working great, saves a lot of time, and very much appreciated. Chief attended the annual Chief Conference in June and there were several very good training sessions. Chief Luce thanks the Board for allowing him to attend. Our new Officer Cain has begun working and she brings a lot of experience with her. The Springport Festival went well. Mitchell is still waiting on a call concerning the new door for the police office.
Board of Review will meet on July 15th to correct clerical errors, mutual mistakes and Homestead exemptions.
Police committee met in June and discussed ways to help pass the upcoming police millage. They will meet again on 7/23/14.
The Planning Committee did not meet.
Fire Board met in June and approved the “Policy and Procedures manual. Election of officers was tabled until the September meeting. Fire Board members toured the plant to see where the new fire truck is being assembled and built,, it was very interesting.
Schmidt is going to call CRAM, who is in charge of road funding to see if they have any influence in helping us schedule road repair with JDOT.
Sebastian moved to adopt “Resolution 13-14, Ordinance for Solicitors”, Betz supported the motion, upon roll call vote in which all Board members voted in favor of adopting said resolution the Supervisor declared resolution adopted.
The Township has received two responses from letters sent to owners of burnt houses in the township. Hopefully work will be started to clean up or repair.
Luce is going to look into some of our ordinances to reword them, especially the junk car ordinance by amending it to exclude agricultural vehicles.
There was no other business or comment from Board Members and the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 pm.
