Springport Township Board Meeting

December 12, 2017

Springport Township’s regular monthly meeting was called to order at 7:02pm, in the township hall on December 11th, 2017.   Board members present were Schmidt, Riehle, Mitchell, and Sebastian; Absent-Losey

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

County Commissioner- No Representative Present

Public Comment- Justina Suban requested to be put on the January agenda to make a presentation to the board regarding medical marihuana.  The presentation would take about an hour.  Request was granted for January 8th, 2018 at 6:00pm.  Riehle will post the meeting.  

* A motion was made by Sebastian to accept the November 13th, 2017 minutes as presented, supported by Mitchell and the motion passed.

Board Member Losey was not present to give the Treasurer’s report.  General Fund has a checking account balance of $236,766.28, Police checking has a balance of $153,508.00 and Fire Operating has a balance of $108,362.88 and Fire Equipment $36,711.83.

*Motion to approve the treasurer’s report as printed by Mitchell, supported by Sebastian and it carried.

General Fund Post Audit for Approval: $644.70

Police Post Audit for Approval: $4,067.55

*Sebastian moved to pay post audit bills, motion supported by Mitchell and it passed unanimously.

General Fund Current Bills for Approval: $7,146.39

Police Current Bills for Approval: $6,498.25

Fire Current Bills for Approval: $17,275.00

*Mitchell moved to pay current bills, motion supported by Sebastian and it passed unanimously.

Police Report:   Chief Luce didn’t have anything to report at this time.  

Committee Reports:

Planning Commission: N/A

Fire Board– Meets December 18th, 2017

Supervisor/Assessor’s Report:  

Supervisor Schmidt reported that he has talked to the village and Gordon Webb has the plans for the Dollar General that may be opening in the village. Board of Review is scheduled to meet December 12th, 2017 at 2:30.  They have 12 parcels to review.  


  • Decker Insurance- Riehle reported that the meeting with Kevin Decker on December 6th went well.  The premium went up 1.15%.  Riehle also presented the board with information from Decker Insurance regarding a Accidental Death and Dismemberment policy for all board members. Discussion followed

*A motion was made by Sebastian to add the Accidental Death and Dismemberment policy to the insurance premium, Mitchell supported the motion and it passed unanimously.  

  • Fire Tax Millage- Discussion took place in regards to lowering the requested millage rate or keeping it the same.  Millage expires at the end of 2017.
