Springport Township Board Meeting
September 11, 2017
Springport Township’s regular monthly meeting was called to order at 7:00pm, in the township hall on September 11, 2017. Board members present were Schmidt, Losey, Riehle, and Mitchell; Board Member Sebastian was absent. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
County Commissioner- Sarah Lightner reported that Jackson County Family Farmfest will be on September 16th, Department of Aging is hosting a Car Show on September 19th at the fairgrounds and House Hold Hazardous Waste Days is September 23 at the fairgrounds.
Public Comment- NA
* A motion was made by Mitchell to accept August 14, 2017 minutes as presented, supported by Schmidt and the motion passed.
Board Member Losey gave the Treasurer’s report. General fund has a checking account balance of $207,560.44, police checking has a balance of $169,721.21 and fire operating has a balance of $127,617.60 and fire equipment $36,661.53.
*Motion to approve the treasurer’s report by Riehle, supported by Mitchell and it carried.
General Fund Post Audit for Approval: $216.69
Police Post Audit for Approval: $14,050.39
*Mitchell moved to pay post audit bills, motion supported by Schmidt and it passed unanimously.
General Fund Current Bills for Approval: $6,780.55
Police Current Bills for Approval: $4,154.85
Fire Current Bills for Approval: $20,235.00
*Mitchell moved to pay current bills, motion supported by Losey and it passed unanimously.
Police Report: Chief Luce reported that Sargent Cain had been in an accident with the 2014 Explorer. The car has been totaled by the insurance company. We are still waiting to hear back on what the payout will be for the car. Discussion took place on options to replace the explorer. Chief Luce mentioned that the contract for the school is ready to be renewed.
Planning Commission: Jackson County Undersheriff attended the meeting to discuss a 911 tower they would like to put up within the township. A conditional use meeting needs to be set up.
*Board member Schmidt motioned to set the Conditional Use Meeting for 6:30pm on October 9th, 2017, Riehle supported the motion and it passed unanimously.
Fire Board– Fire Board meets September 18th
Supervisor/Assessor’s Report: Haven’t heard back from the resident that was interested in a gun range at the golf course. Jim Wardius left a message for the residents that was interested in building an 800 sqft home but hasn’t heard back from them. Schmidt and Cortright are currently working with AMAR to finish their audit.
- Board member Riehle spoke with Consumers again regarding the vines on the power line. Someone should be out this week.
- School/Police Contract- The school contract is up for renewal.
* Board Member Riehle motioned to renew the school/police contract with the cost to the school being $7500 per year, Mitchell supported the motion and it passed unanimously.
Board Member Comments – Board Member Losey reported that taxes are due Thursday September 14th by 5:00pm
