Springport Township Board Meeting
October 9, 2017
Springport Township’s regular monthly meeting was called to order at 7:00pm, in the township hall on October 9th, 2017. Board members present were Schmidt, Losey, Riehle, Mitchell, and Sebastian. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
County Commissioner- No Representative Present
Public Comment- NA
* A motion was made by Mitchell to accept September 11, 2017 minutes as presented, supported by Sebastian and the motion passed.
Board Member Losey gave the Treasurer’s report. General fund has a checking account balance of $225,226.58, police checking has a balance of $160,096.76 and fire operating has a balance of $107,437.45 and fire equipment $36,677.55.
*Motion to approve the treasurer’s report by Mitchell, supported by Sebastian and it carried.
General Fund Post Audit for Approval: $862.17
Police Post Audit for Approval: $6,485.25
Post Audit Fire for Approval: NA
*Sebastian moved to pay post audit bills, motion supported by Mitchell and it passed unanimously.
General Fund Current Bills for Approval: $8,991.38
Police Current Bills for Approval: $3,917.87
Fire Current Bills for Approval: NA
*Mitchell moved to pay current bills, motion supported by Sebastian and it passed unanimously.
Police Report: Chief Luce reported that the department is down to 2 operating vehicles. Discussion took place regarding how to move forward regarding vehicles. Board Member Sebastian motioned to sell the Charger and look for a different vehicle, motion supported by Mitchell. The motion passed unanimously. Chief Luce will look for a different vehicle.
Planning Commission: Approved the Conditional Use Permit for the communication tower on Jackson County Road Commissions property located on Brown Road.
Fire Board– Board Member Sebastian reported that Calhoun County had a grant for compression machines with a 10% match. It was requested at the fire board meeting that Springport Township pay half of the out of pocket cost of the compression machine. Sebastian also reported that Bob Fisher retired from the fire board.
* Mitchell motioned to pay half of the out of pocket cost of the compression machine Sebastian supported and the motion passed unanimously.
Supervisor Schmidt reported that he had been to a continuing education class in Howell
Communication Tower- Representatives from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department presented details to the board regarding the communication tower project on Brown Road.
* Board Member Sebastian motioned to approve the conditional use permit for the communication tower on Brown Rd, supported by Mitchell and the motion passed unanimously.
