Springport Township Board Meeting
Nov. 10th, 2014
The regular meeting of the Springport Township Board meeting was called to order on Nov. 10th, 2014 by Supervisor Schmidt at 7:00 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Board members present were Betz, Mitchell, Schmidt and Keeler, Sebastian was absent, we had 2 guests.
Mitchell moved to accept the minutes of Oct. 13th, 2014, motion supported by Betz, and it carried.
Betz gave the treasurer’s report, general fund checking account has a balance of $99,493.76, police account has $96,738.54, and fire operating has a balance of $15,806.96 and $52,667.02 in CD’s. Keeler moved to accept the treasurer’s report for audit, Mitchell supported the motion and it passed.
Schmidt moved to approve post audit police bills of $6,345.79, Mitchell supported the motion and it carried.
Motion by Betz to approve post audit general fund bill of $67.09, Mitchell supported the motion and it passed.
Mitchell moved and Betz supported to approve payment of general fund bills for $6,845.96, motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Mitchell, supported by Betz to pay police bills in the amount of $7,858.14, motion carried.
Betz moved to approve fire bills of $15,000.00 motion supported by Mitchell and it passed unanimously.
Police report by Chief Luce;
Chief Luce reported that officers spent over 20 hours at the schools and sporting events last month. Officer Taylor has resigned and accepted a new position at Jackson Co. There is a possibility Cain will step into that position. Officers did some handgun qualifications with the Sheriff Dept. and Josh Locke is now through with his training and on the work schedule. They are working on getting Locke radar certified. The new door has been installed at the police office and looks great. Contract between Springport School and the Township for police officers on school grounds has been signed.
Police committee will meet on Dec. 4th at 6:30.
Planning committee did not meet but will do so in December to submit the rezoning of the Richmond property.
Fire Board will meet on Dec. 15.
Schmidt reported the SEV on residential properties is going down in the township. The BOR will meet Dec. 10th at 5:30 pm in the township hall.
Report from County Commissioner Sarah Lightner;
The County Commissioners have hired a new Director for roads, his name is Chris Bolt, and his first item of business will be to establish a task force. Region 2 has two vacant seats on their board, and the Parks and Recreation has one seat available. Night Lights will begin after Thanksgiving at the fairgrounds again this year, cost is $15.00 per car .

Board Member Comments;
Keeler reported a water problem coming from the roof down on to the stove in kitchen area, Schmidt will look into it. Betz has talked to the bank that handles financing for Spring Arbor and hopes to get some results from delinquent trailer fees.
