Springport Township Board Meeting
May 8, 2017

 Springport Township’s regular monthly meeting was called to order at 7:00pm, in the township hall on May 8th, 2017.   Board members present were Schmidt, Losey, Riehle, Sebastian and Mitchell.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
County Commissioner- no representative
 A motion was made by Mitchell to accept April 10, 2017, supported by Schmidt and the motion passed.
Losey gave the Treasurer’s report.  General fund has a balance of $190,172.46 in the checking account, police checking has a balance of $228,966.59, and fire operating has a balance of $138,243.34 and fire equipment $36,592.55.  *Motion to approve the treasurer’s report by Sebastian, supported by Mitchell and it carried.

*Motion by Mitchell to approve post audit bills supported by Sebastian and it passed unanimously.

*Mitchell moved to pay current bills, motion supported by Sebastian and it passed unanimously.

Budget Amendment- Riehle requested a budget amendment to pay BS&A Software.  The annual support fee increased this year after switching to .net.  Previously the bill has been paid out of office supplies but should be paid out of contracted services.  Amendment request: Decrease 101-171-726 by $767 increase 101-171-818 by $767, decrease 101-215-726 by $882 increase 101-215-818 by $882, decrease 101-253-726 by $518 increase 101-253-818 by $518, decrease 101-101-955 by $649 increase 101-215-818 by $501 increase 101-253-818 by $148.

Motion made by Sebastian, supported by Mitchell to approve requested budget amendment, motion passed unanimously. 
Motion made by Sebastian, supported by Mitchell to pay BS&A $2,816.00, motion passed unanimously.

Police Report:   All officers attended driving school.  The new police car is in and equipment is being ordered and installed.  The car should be on the road in the next 4-6 weeks. 
Committee Reports:
Planning Commission: discussed junk car ordinance and Springport Rd. culvert project
Fire Board– will meet in June
Supervisor/Assessor’s Reportworking on putting in new deeds
UNFINISHED BUSINESS

  • Animal Control Ordinance- will look at adopting Jackson County’s Animal Control Ordinance at June’s meeting.
  • Tire Grant Update/Township clean up- will be June 3rd from 9am-1pm. 
  • Front Door- Schmidt will look into this further.  Thinks it may just need new hinges.

  • Right of Refusal – 007-01-20-101-022-00- It is the boards’ decision to not purchase such parcel.  Roll call vote was made and passed unanimously. 
  • Springport Road Culvert- The estimated cost for replacing the culvert is $62,656.88.  Township cost would be 50% ($31,328.44).  Discussion on how to finance this project took place.  Sebastian is going to see if we can split the cost over 2 years. 
  • Board Member Comments – Riehle will be out of the office the week of June 5-9th, 2017, Keeler will be covering the office.
