Springport Township Board Meeting
July 11th, 2016

       The Springport Township regular monthly board meeting was called to order by Supervisor Schmidt at 7:00 on the 11th of July.  All board members were present and we had 2 guests.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
       Jackson County Treasurer Karen Coffman was present, she wanted to let us know she was running again for County  Treasurer and if we had any questions for her or any problems she could help us with.  She will look into the problem we have with collecting trailer fees and see how other township handle this problem.
The June 13th  board minutes were presented and Sebastian  moved to accept them as corrected, Mitchell supported the motion and it carried.
      Losey gave the treasurer’s report.  General fund balance is $182,245.93, police account balance is $191,659.87, fire operating balance is $80,373.96 and fire equipment is at $166,867.45.  Sebastian moved to accept the report for audit, supported by Mitchell and the motion passed.  Losey also informed the Board that Homestead was under a new manager and they could not give 1% interest on our accounts beginning July 1st.  She will contact other banks to possibly open an account in another bank, especially when tax money comes in.
Sebastian moved to approve post audit police bills in the amount of $3,401.54, motion supported by Mitchell and it passed.
Motion by Sebastian, supported by Mitchell to approve post audit general fund bills of $600.86, motion carried.
Sebastian moved to pay general fund bills in the amount of $6,836.21, motion supported by Mitchell and it passed unanimously.
Motion by Mitchell to pay police bills of $9,929.34, supported by Sebastian and all board members voted “aye”.
Police Report:  Chief Luce reported the Chief’s conference was excellent and he was glad he had the opportunity to attend.  The Springport Festival went well without any incidents
Committee Reports:
Police Board will meet in September.
Planning Commission will met on July 11th at 6:30.   All members were in attendance.  They asked what the Township paid annually to Region 2 and what benefits we received from them.  Keeler will look into it.
Fire Board has a meeting on the 19th of Sept.  At the June meeting fire department discussed the need for an off road vehicle for swamp fires and some emergency rescues, they will try to raise the money with fund raisers, etc. 
Supervisor’s report;  July Board of Review will meet July 19th.
Unfinished Business:
Jackson Co Department has placed asphalt on parts of Browns and Gibbs roads.
The Township has not heard from White & Hotchkiss in regards to contract with the Village or rewriting ordinances.  Losey has been in contact with them concerning Springport Trailer Fees.  Sebastian moved to release White and Hotchkiss from representing  Springport Township for legal and other issues, motion supported by Keeler and it passed.  The Board will find another law firm immediately.
New Business:  There was no new business.
County Commissioner Sarah Lightner reported on the County Commissioners meetings.  There will be a presentation to the Commissioners on Tuesday concerning the County producing their own asphalt in the beginning it would be financed by a road funding bond.
