Springport Township Board Meeting

January 14, 2019


Springport Townships regular monthly meeting was called to order at 7:01pm, in the township hall on January 14, 2019.   

Board members present were Schmidt, Riehle, Mitchell, Losey and Sebastian. Chief Luce was also present. .

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

County Commissioner-Not present

Public Comment- None

* A motion was made by Sebastian to accept the December 10, 2018 minutes, supported by Mitchell and the motion passed.

Board Member Losey gave the Treasurer’s report.  General Fund has a checking account balance of $303,362.80 Police checking has a balance of $166,372.73 and Fire Operating has a balance of $121,375.48 and Fire Equipment $36,931.49

*Motion to approve the treasurer’s report as printed by Sebastian, supported by Mitchell and it carried.

Budget Amendment- Riehle suggested to decrease wages 207-301-702-000 by $8533.85; increase insurance 207-301-914-000 by $3,533.85 and increase vehicle repair and mait 207-301-939-000 by $5000.00

*Motion to approve the budget amendment as suggested by Mitchell, supported by Sebastian and it carried.

Approval of Post Audit Bills:

General Fund Post Audit for Approval: $234.83  Police Post Audit for Approval: $7,402.22

*Sebastian moved to pay post audit bills, motion supported by Mitchell and it passed unanimously

Approval of Current Bills:

General Fund Current Bills for Approval: 10,668.65;Police Current Bills for Approval: $13,240.92

*Mitchell moved to pay current bills, motion supported by Sebastian and it passed unanimously.


Police Report:  Chief Luce reported that December was a slow month with nothing major to report. Luce is in the process of hiring another part time officer to help with part time hours.Officers will be attending First Aid refresher in January.  

Road Report- Sebastian reported that Springport Road is reopened with a 4-way stop.   

Fire Report- Sebastian reported that Chief Ott presented preliminary drawing for a new fire barn at the last fire board meeting.  Discussion took place.

Supervisor/Assessor’s Report: Schmidt updated with board with information from the State Tax Commission. Discussion took place.The township is required to hire a 3rd party contractor to oversee the 2019 assessing roll.  Schmidt is waiting for estimates and will get back with the board.

 UNFINISHED BUSINESS

  • Insurance Quote-  Riehle reported that after getting quotes from other insurance companies, Decker was the best price.



NEW BUSINESS:

  • Tire Grant- Riehle reported that she is still working on the tire collection grant.  The plan is to have the township cleanup day and the tire collection the same day. Tentatively that date is set for June 8, 2019.
