Springport Township Board Meeting

April 8, 2019


Springport Townships regular monthly meeting was called to order at 7:00pm, in the township hall on April 8, 2019.   

Board members present were Schmidt, Riehle, Mitchell, Marsh and Sebastian. Chief Luce was also present. Also attending was Jackie Merritt and Calvin Battles from Jackson District Library.  

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

County Commissioner-Not present

Public Comment- None

Jackson District Library- Jackie Merritt and Calvin Battles reported to the board that they will be in community on 4/22/19 at 10:00am at the township hall, 4/22/19 at 3:30pm in the High School Library and 4/29/19 at 6:30pm at the township hall to have community conversations and get feedback on what programs local residents would like.  

* A motion was made by Mitchell to accept the March 1, 2019, March 11, 2019 and  March 28, 2019 minutes, supported by Sebastian and the motion passed.

Board Member Marsh gave the Treasurer’s report.  General Fund has a checking account balance of $386,380.15 Police checking has a balance of $308,114.39 and Fire Operating has a balance of $198,395.95 and Fire Equipment $36,989.20

*Motion to approve the treasurer’s report as printed by Sebastian, supported by Mitchell and it carried.

Approval of Post Audit Bills:

APPROVAL OF POST AUDIT BILLS;  General Fund:NA; Fire NA; Police:$3,078.62  Total Post Audit Bills $3,078.62

*Mitchell moved to pay post audit bills, motion supported by Sebastian and it passed unanimously

Approval of Current Bills:


APPROVAL OF BILLS:  General Fund: $18,164.20;  Fire:$105.60;  Police: $3,702.65    Total Current Bills  $21,972.45

*Mitchell moved to pay current bills, motion supported by Sebastian and it passed unanimously.



Police Report:

Chief Luce reported that there were no stats for this meeting but he would bring them in May.  New officer Chuck Brant is working out well and Brett Lincoln will be hired in May.

Road Report-  The bridge on Robbins Rd will be replaced in 2019, work on Pope Church Rd from M-50 to Crawford Rd.

Fire Board:  Supervisor/Assessor’s Report:

-Assessing contractor, CSZ Services will be attending the May meeting to discuss the assessing roll.

-BSA will be doing treasurer training on May 16th

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: NA

NEW BUSINESS:

  • Seventh-Day Adventist- will be in the township between June 3-August 11, 2019 between the hours of 10:00am and 9:00pm

  • Resolution for Nonpartisan ballot- Riehle presented the board with a resolution regarding support or oppose legislation that would allow township boards the option to have its elected office appear as nonpartisan on the ballot.  Discussion took place.
